Petra

Explore the historical and archaeological city of Petra and get mesmerized by its timeless grandeur. A trip to this UNESCO World Heritage site is mandatory when visiting the beautiful country of Jordan. Situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, historical evidence states that Petra was probably established in the 4th century BC as the capital city of the Nabateans, who were nomadic Arabs. A stunning creation by both nature and man, Petra’s beauty needs to be seen to be believed; the exquisite rock formations and man-made carvings in shades of pink and red fill you with awe and wonder. Untouched by modernity, fragments of the ancient Nabatean civilization are visible to tourists as the site has a few caves, tombs and city remains that are still intact. A prominent structure inside is the Al-Khazneh, a massive temple carved out of a sandstone rock that is believed to be the tomb of a Nabataean king. Being the main tourist destination in Jordan, camel and horse rides are offered at Petra and you will also find local artisans selling handicrafts, pottery, jewellery, and souvenirs.
